Neal Cassady’s legendary ‘49 Hudson, made famous in Jack Kerouac’s novel On The Road, is lost to posterity. Other than Jack’s description of it in the novel (to the point where it is almost a character in the book) and the memory of it in the minds of Neal’s wife Carolyn Cassady and his friend Al Hinkle (‘Big Ed Dunkel’ in the book) there is nothing tangible that can prove it ever even existed. There is no bill of sale, no vehicle identification number, no license plate—not even a photograph. It’s memory is kept alive in the mind of the reader.

And perhaps this is the way it should be. The ‘49 Hudson represents a dream, and dreams are malleable. The Hudson represents Freedom and Desire and “Go, go, go…” as Neal would say, so perhaps it is fitting that you can’t really touch it. The Hudson represents anticipation, the joy of being alive in the world and heading towards that next horizon. It’s an inner journey that is experienced in the external world. In other times the vehicle for this exploration might have been a sailing ship, a white horse in the Cowboy West, or in the future, Hans Solo’s Millennium Falcon.

Leonardo DiCaprio's production company Appian Way, in association with Legendary Pictures and Mad Chance, is set to begin principal photography on the feature film "Akira" this coming spring in Vancouver, BC. Casting is heating up as screen testing is taking place for the lead roles, and the supporting roles will be cast soon. The extras, photo doubles, and stand-ins for the film's stars will be cast in Vancouver. The movie is set in a place called New Manhattan and follows two brothers, one the leader of a motorcycle gang, the other his younger brother, a young man with telekinetic abilities who becomes a dangerous weapon.

Garrett Hedlund has been cast as Kaneda, who is the main protagonist of "Akira". The beautiful and talented Kristen Stewart will play Ky, a powerful medium who cannot use psychic powers of her own, but can channel the powers of others through her body. Ken Watanabe portrays The Colonel, head of the secret government project conducting research on psychic test subjects. Helena Bonham Carter plays Lady Miyako.

Spanish filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra will direct "Akira" from an adapted screenplay written by Albert Torres, Steve Kloves, and David James. Collet-Serra most recently directed the 2011 Warner Bros. Pictures film "Unknown" starring Liam Neeson and January Jones. Other directorial credits include the 2005 remake of "House of Wax," "Orphan," and the TV series pilot "The River". He is set to direct another Appian Way film titled "Harker" in 2013.

This live action adaptation of anime artist Katsuhiro Otomo’s 6-volume graphic novel will be produced by Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran of Appian Way, Andrew Lazar for Mad Chance, and Legendary Pictures' Jon Jashni. Katsuhiro Otomo will executive produce. Warner Bros. Pictures will distribute "Akira".

There was a very long wait for the fans who were old enough to have enjoyed the original TRON movie on the big screen. That groundbreaking 1982 hit, starring Jeff Bridges, had to wait an incredible 28 years before it finally received its highly anticipated sequel.

However, such was the success of TRON: Legacy at the box office that TRON 3 is likely to happen and Joseph Kosinski, the director of TRON: Legacy, has hinted at what could happen in the sequel. It is believed that the third instalment will continue where TRON: Legacy left off, with Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) and Quorra (Olivia Wilde) in the real world.

However, Kosinski has revealed that we could see some other familiar faces. He explained, “Dillinger [David Warner] was a really important part of the first [TRON] and felt like an easy way to continue that storyline and thread to have his son (Cillian Murphy) in [TRON: Legacy].”

He added, “That way you have people ask those questions of what the Dillinger legacy is in the world of TRON. We didn’t want to ignore it completely and it leaves a really nice springboard for some intertwining development for the next film.” TRON 3 is expected to be released in 2014.

I had gone to D23 for many events and had the chance to meet Bruce Boxleitner. When I had approached him for an autograph I had said to him, 'So, can you tell me anything about TRON 3?' He replies, 'It's currently in the process of writing, we may see it on '13 (2013).' I go on and ask him about TRON: Uprising, and that my dad had worked on it (he seemed really interested) and he told me that 'TRON: Uprising isn't for kids, it's for all ages.' He says that the show is really beautiful and so cool. He also goes on and tells me, 'We all know that Kevin Flynn blows up at the end of Legacy, but someone may take over.' And he proceeds to wink at me and that was it.

So, is TRON going to take over in TRON 3? We shall see when the time comes (:

The end of July means the start of the awards season: it’s when the two big autumn film festivals – Venice and Toronto – start to announce their programmes, and when we get a first look at those movies that’ll be on everyone’s radar next spring. Here are our top 50 Oscar tips, ranked in order, from bottom to top.

18: Another vaguely delayed project is Walter Salles’s take on the Jack Kerouac classic. Should On the Road make it into cinemas before the voting deadlines end, there could be the jangle of gongs for Salles, or cast members Kirsten Dunst, Kristen Stewart, Garrett Hedlund and Sam Riley.
